Sarah Pilkington has practiced family law in Texas since graduating from the University of Texas School of Law in 2008. Her work centers on the first weeks of a matter, when most of the expensive mistakes get made.
Sarah grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, came to Austin for law school at UT, and has practiced family law here since. Most family-law mistakes happen earlier than people expect, in the first few weeks when assumptions are forming and the pressure to act fast is high. The work she does well is steadying that early phase. She works to understand what the client is actually trying to accomplish before designing a path to get there.
As a parent herself, Sarah has practical perspective on the parts of family law that change daily life: co-parenting schedules, school logistics, the second-order consequences of a property division years out. That perspective does not make legal questions easier, but it makes conversations about them more useful.
Outside the office, Sarah runs half-marathons and is active with the Junior League of Austin and local literacy initiatives. Her instinct, repeated to clients in different forms: five years from now, will this matter? If not, don't sweat it. If so, get it right.
